Description

Sh2-249 is an extensive flame-shaped H II region positioned in the direction of the star μ Geminorum, being crossed by dark nebulae.
Sh2-249 is located next to the nebula SH2-248 (Medusa Nebula), located in the lower right outside the photograph.
The ionization source responsible for the illumination of the nebula would come from the stellar wind of three massive stars of spectral class B, cataloged as
HD 43753, HD 43818 and HD 255091.
